ACTS is a project of the Wendy Immelman Charitable Trust and has been in operation since 2008. The founder, Wendy Immelman, has been involved in community based work for the last 40 years and is the second generation in the family to continue the legacy of serving others. Carol van Zyl, Manager of ACT and Wendy’s daughter, has established several community based projects over the last 22 years. Three years ago Wendy invested some money to set up a trust. Her family decided to name it in her honour as the Wendy Immelman Charitable Trust trading as ACTS (A Centre That Serves) .Wendy’s vision has always been to serve the downhearted and those less fortunate. ACTS is a faith based organisation and our principles are based on the practical implication in the book of ACTS in the Bible where we are instructed to love and serve those around us by feeding the poor, taking care of the downtrodden, widows and the sick.

Based on an intensive impact study on the severity of poverty on neighbouring semi rural areas in and around Amanzimtoti as a result of HIV/AIDS, ACTS was able to form a partnership with smaller community based projects in impoverished communities such as Nsimbini and Ezimangweni.

The reason for our success is the meaningful and respectful involvement of the communities that we operate in. Through an engagement and consultative process with Community leaders, priority needs are identified and solved with the main emphasis being poverty alleviation. ACTS believes that people must be supported in a holistic manner. This is achieved by creating a nurturing environment that develops the mind, the body and the spirit
